AMIGURUMI PLUSH BEAR PATTERN

 

Happy September everyone! As most of you are aware, I love working with sport weight or DK weight yarn. But this time I made an amigurumi plush bear using blanket/chenille yarn. It’s my first time designing a pattern using this type of yarn, hope you don’t mind if there’s any mistakes.

Instructions:

Amigurumi plush bear pattern is written in US English terms and worked in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise.

Materials needed:

• Bulky weight blanket/chenille yarn in brown colour.
• Worsted weight yarn in white and any colour of your choice for scarf.
• 5 mm and 3.5 mm crochet hook.
• Fiberfill for stuffing.
• 12 mm safety eyes.
• Tapestry needle.
• Small amount of black and pink felt.
• Small button for scarf.

Stitches/ Abbreviations:

• R – round/row.
• Ch – chain.
• St(s) – stitch(es).
• Sc – single crochet.
• Inc – increase (2sc in one st).
• Dec – decrease (sc 2 st together).
• Hdc – half double crochet.
• BLO – back loops only.
• Sl st – slip stitch.
• [...] – repeat the instructions given in between the brackets.
• (...) – total number of stitches.

Head:

Using brown yarn and 5 mm hook,

1. R1: Ch 2, 8 sc in second chain from hook (8).
2. R2: Inc in each st (16).
3. R3: [Sc, inc] x 8 (24).
4. R4: [Sc 2, inc] x 8 (32).
5. R5: [Sc 3, inc] x 8 (40).
6. R6-10: Sc in each st (40).
7. R11: [Sc 3, dec] x 8 (32).
8. Insert 12 mm safety eyes between R8 and R9 with 8 stitches in between.
9. R12: [Sc 2, dec] x 8 (24).
10. R13: Dec x 12 (12).
11. Stuff firmly and fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Ears (make 2):

Using brown yarn,

1. R1: Ch 2, 8 sc in second chain from hook (8).
2. R2: [Sc, inc] x 4 (12).
3. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Legs (make 2):

Using brown yarn,

1. R1: Ch 2, 8 sc in second chain from hook (8).
2. R2: [Sc 3, inc] x 2 (10).
3. R3-4: Sc in each st (10).
4. Fasten off the first leg but don’t cut off the yarn in second one. Stuff the legs and continue to body part.

Body:

With the second leg, chain 1 and join to the first leg.

1. R5: Sc 4, (inc x 2), sc 4, inc in ch space, (continue to work on the other leg) sc 4, (inc x 2), sc 4, inc in ch space (28).
2. R6-9: Sc in each st (28).
3. R10: Sc 6, dec, sc 5, dec, sc 5, dec, sc 4, dec (24).
4. R11: Sc in each st (24).
5. R12: [Sc 2, dec] x 6 (18).
6. R13: [Sc, dec] x 6 (12).
7. Stuff the body, fasten off and weave in the ends.

Arms (make 2):

Using brown yarn,

1. R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook (6).
2. R2: [Sc 5, inc] (7).
3. R3-R6: Sc in each st (7).
4. Sc through both the top layers to close.
5. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Muzzle:

Using white yarn (worsted weight) and 3.5mm hook,

1. R1: 8 sc in magic ring (8).
2. R2: Inc x 8 (16).
3. R3: Sc 2, (inc x 4), sc 4, (inc x 4), sc 2 (24).
4. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Cut a small triangle shape in black felt and glue it in the middle for the nose and embroider a straight line below using black yarn.

(Alternatively, you can embroider the nose or use a triangle safety nose.)

Assembling:

• Attach the ears between R4-R6 of the head.
• Embroider a small curve to the side of the eyes using white yarn.
• Sew the muzzle in between the eyes.
• Add blush using pink felt or pink yarn.
• Attach the head to the body using the remaining yarn tail.
• Sew the arms one row below from the top of the body.

Scarf:

Using worsted weight yarn (any colour of your choice) and 3.5 mm hook,

1. R1: Ch 7, hdc in third chain from hook and onto the remaining chains (5). Ch 2, turn.
2. R2: (BLO) Hdc on each st (5). Ch 2, turn.
3. Continue to repeat R2 instructions until you are satisfied with the length of the scarf. I made around 33 rows in total.
4. R34: Hdc 2, ch 1, skip one st, hdc 2 (4). Ch 1, turn.
5. R35: Sc in each st (5).
6. Wrap the scarf around the neck to check for the right placement of the button.
7. Place the button at the other end of the scarf (I placed it around R6).

Note: The ch 1 space in R34 is the buttonhole. Increase the chain and skip one more stitch if using a large button.

And your Amigurumi plush bear is now ready!
