Materials

• Bernat Softee Baby yarn (100% acrylic, 140 g / 5 oz, 331 m / 362 yds)
• 1 skein Navy
• 2 skeins Soft Red
• 3 skeins White
• Size G / 4.00 mm crochet hook
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Approximately 36 in x 34 in.

Stitches

Single Crochet (SC)

Insert your hook, yarn over (YO) and pull up a loop. YO and pull through two loops on hook.

Half Double Crochet (HDC)

YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop. YO and pull through three loops on hook.

Double Crochet (DC)

YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop. YO and pull through two loops, YO and pull through the remaining two loops on hook.

Pattern

With Soft Red, chain 120.

Row 1

In the fourth chain from the hook, work 2 DC. Skip the next chain space.

*Work 2 DC in the next chain space, then skip the next chain.*

Repeat from * to * across the row and work 1 DC into the very last chain.

Chain 3 and turn. The chain 3 will count as your first DC on the next row.

Row 2

Work 2 DC in between each pair of DC from the row below, inserting your hook between the two stitches.

Repeat across the entire row and finish with 1 DC into the top of the beginning chain 3.

Chain 3 and turn.

Repeat

Continue repeating Row 2 for the remainder of the blanket, following the color sequence below.

The two double crochets are always worked in between the two double crochets from the previous row.

Color Sequence

• 7 rows Soft Red
• 1 row White
• 7 rows Soft Red
• 7 rows White
• 2 rows Navy
• 7 rows White

Repeat the complete color sequence above one more time.

Then finish with:

• 7 rows Soft Red
• 1 row White
• 7 rows Soft Red

Border

Before beginning the border, weave in all yarn ends.

Border Round 1

Start in the upper left-hand corner of the blanket, working down the left-hand side.

With White, pull up a loop and chain 3. This chain 3 counts as a DC.

Work 2 more DC into the same corner.

Work approximately 2 DC for each row of V-stitch along the side of the blanket.

Check your tension as you work. If the blanket begins to ripple, you may need to use a smaller hook or adjust the number of stitches.

Work 6 DC in each corner.

Along the top and bottom edges of the blanket, work 2 DC between each group of V-stitches.

When you return to the starting corner, work 3 DC and slip stitch to join.

Chain 1 and turn.

Border Round 2

Work 1 SC in each stitch around.

In each corner, work 3 SC into the third DC of the previous round to create a rounded corner.

Slip stitch to join.

Chain 2 and turn.

Border Round 3

Work 1 HDC in each stitch around.

In each corner, work 3 HDC into the middle SC of the three corner stitches from the previous round.

Slip stitch to join.

Chain 1 and turn.

Finishing the Border

Repeat the SC and HDC border rounds two more times.

Tie off and weave in all remaining ends.
