Red Heart All in One Star Gaze (8.8 oz/225 g; 383 yds/351 m)

• Contrast A: Starry Night (0002) – 4 balls (50 motifs)

Red Heart Super Saver (7.9 oz/198 g; 364 yds/333 m)

• Contrast B: Royal (0385) – 2 balls or 518 yds/473.5 m
• Contrast C: Black (0312) – 3 balls or 1015 yds/928 m
• Contrast D: Saffron (0234) – 1 ball or 101 yds/92.5 m

Hook: Size U.S. I/9 (5.5 mm) Susan Bates Silvalume crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.

Other Supplies: Susan Bates yarn needle.

Approx 55" x 67" [139.5 x 170 cm].

Star Gaze Motifs

Make 50 with Contrast A.

Notes

• Motifs begin with Color 1, the shortest color repeat, from the center of the pull-skein, leaving a 4" [10 cm] tail to weave in.
• 1st and 2nd rounds will be worked in Color 1.
• 3rd round will be worked in Color 2.
• 4th and 5th rounds will be worked in Color 3.
• If too much color is left at the end of a round, pull back some stitches and slightly loosen gauge to re-work stitches and finish at the color change.
• If too little color is left, pull back some stitches and slightly tighten gauge to re-work stitches and finish at the color change.
• Motif should measure 6" [15 cm] square at the end of the last round, with a long tail of at least 24" [61 cm] remaining for seaming.
• Ch 2 at beginning of round does not count as a stitch.
• Ch 3 at beginning of round counts as dc.
• Ch 4 at beginning of round counts as tr.
• Join all rounds with sl st to first stitch, unless otherwise stated.

With Color 1, ch 4. Join with sl st to first ch to form ring.

1st Round

Ch 3. 9 dc in ring. Join. 10 dc.

2nd Round

*Ch 5. Working into bumps at back of ch, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 hdc in next ch. 1 dc in next ch. 1 tr in last ch. Skip next dc. Sl st in next dc – Star Point made. Rep from * 4 times more, ending last rep with sl st into top of first dc of 1st rnd. Color 1 complete.

Working in Back Bump

3rd Round

With Color 2, working in back loops only on both edges of Star Points, sl st in each of next 2 ch. Ch 4.

*1 dc in next ch. 1 hdc in next ch. 1 sc in turning ch. 1 hdc in next st. 1 dc in next st. 1 tr in next st. Long Tr2tog over next st and first ch of next Star Point.** 1 tr in next ch.

Rep from * 3 times more, then from * to ** once, noting that last leg of Long Tr2tog will work into same sp as first sl st. Join. Color 2 complete.

4th Round

With Color 3, ch 4.

*2 dc in next st. Ch 1. 1 dc in next st. 1 hdc in next st. 1 sc in next st. Ch 1. 1 sc in next st. 1 hdc in next st. 1 dc in next st. Ch 1. 2 dc in next st. 1 tr in next st.** Ch 3 (for corner). 1 tr in next st.

Rep from * twice more, then from * to ** once. Join with 1 dc in top of ch-4.

5th Round

Sl st around post of joining dc. Ch 2. 3 hdc around post of joining dc.

*(Ch 1. 3 hdc) in each ch-1 sp to next ch-3 sp. Ch 1.** (3 hdc. Ch 3. 3 hdc) in next ch-3 sp.

Rep from * twice more, then from * to ** once. 3 hdc around post of joining dc. Ch 3. Join.

Fasten off at end of Color 3, leaving approx 24" [61 cm] tail.

Motif should measure 6" [15 cm] square.

Solid Motifs

Using instructions for Star Gaze Motifs:

• Make 18 with Contrast B.
• Make 31 with Contrast C.

Note that colors will not change throughout the motif.

Finishing

Seaming with Flat Slip Stitch Join

RS: With C, sl st motifs together as shown in Assembly Diagram on page 4, working through back loops only, ensuring RS is facing up on all motifs and keeping working yarn to WS of work to create a flat sl st chain detail on RS of work.

Join motifs into 11 horizontal strips, having 9 motifs in each strip. Join the 11 strips together.

Flat Slip Stitch Join

Note: Keep working yarn to WS of work so only the flat sl st chain is visible on RS.

Edging

1st Round

RS: Join D with sl st to any corner ch-3 sp of blanket. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc). 2 dc in same ch-3 sp.

[*Ch 1. 3 dc in next ch-1 or ch-3 sp. Rep from * to next corner. (3 dc. Ch 3. 3 dc) in corner ch-3 sp] 3 times.

**Ch 1. 3 dc in next ch-1 or ch-3 sp. Rep from ** to next corner. (3 dc. Ch 3) in corner ch-3 sp.

Join with sl st to top of first ch-3. Fasten off.
