Free Pattern: The Color Octopus
Free Pattern: The Color Octopus
My little Anna discovered The Color Monster – A Book of Feelings at school a few days ago. She is in love with it and couldn’t stop talking about the colors of emotion. So, I decided to make these baby octopuses for her so she could create and enjoy more stories about this topic.
It will take you less than 1 hour to finish one octopus. You can use it as a keychain, a little friendly octopus on your desk, or create them in all the colors of emotion, like mine:
- Red – Angry
- Yellow – Happy
- Green – Calm
- Blue – Sad
- Grey – Scared
- Pink – Love
As always, at a small fee, you can also buy this pattern to receive a beautifully formatted and easy-to-read PDF file with photo references. Thank you for supporting Khuc Cay designs.

Happy crocheting ♥

When you need to decrease, use the Invisible Decrease crochet technique for a cleaner result.
The size of the octopus will vary depending on the yarn used. If you use the same materials as the original project, the finished octopus will measure approximately 5 cm, or about 10 cm including the limbs.
Let’s Start!

Rnd 2: inc in each st around [16]

Rnd 17: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 8 times [16]
Rnd 18: dec 8 times [8]
Fasten off and close the remaining stitches.
Limbs
Color: Green – light shade
With the head facing downwards, work into the front loops of Rnd 15. Insert the crochet hook into the first stitch and attach the green yarn.
Ch 17. Starting in the 3rd ch from the hook, work 1 dc in each ch across until the end of the chain (15 dc). Skip 2 sts on Rnd 15 and sl st.
This completes the first limb.
Repeat the following sequence 7 more times:
* sl st, ch 17, starting in the 3rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each ch across until the end of the chain (15 dc), skip 2 sts on Rnd 15, sl st *
At the end, you should have 8 limbs.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
