Notes

• To change colors, work to last 2 loops on hook of first color. Draw new color through last 2 loops and proceed with new color.
• Carry yarn not in use across top of previous row and work sts around it to prevent stranding.
• Ch 2 at beg of row/rnd does not count as st.

1st row: (RS). 1 hhdc in 3rd ch from hook and each of next 7 ch. *With B, 1 hhdc in each of next 8 ch. With C, 1 hhdc in each of next 8 ch. Rep from * to end of chain. Turn. 104 hhdc.

2nd to 6th rows: With C, ch 2. 1 hhdc in each of first 8 hhdc. *With B, 1 hhdc in each of next 8 hhdc. With C, 1 hhdc in each of next 8 hhdc. Rep from * to end of row Turn. Break C at end of last row.

7th to 12th rows: With B, ch 2. 1 hhdc in each of first 8 hhdc. *With A, 1 hhdc in each of next 8 hhdc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn. Break A at end of 12th row.

13th row: As 2nd row.

Rep 2nd to 13th rows for Gingham Pat until work from beg measures approx 28" [71 cm], ending on 6th row of pat. Fasten off.

Border

1st rnd: With RS facing, join A with sl st to any corner. Ch 1. 2 hhdc in same sp as sl st. Work in hhdc around having 3 hhdc in each corner and approx 8 hhdc per block of color on sides. 1 hhdc in same sp as first 2 hhdc. Join with sl st to first hhdc. Turn.

2nd rnd: Ch 2. 2 hhdc in same sp as last sl st. 1 hhdc in each hhdc around, having 3 hhdc in each corner hhdc. 1 hhdc in same sp as first 2 hhdc. Join with sl st to first st.

3rd and 4th rnds: As 2nd rnd.
