How to Change Colors in Amigurumi – Invisible Color Change

When working on the last round before your next color change, work up until the last stitch. Insert your hook into the last stitch, yarn over with your original color, and pull through. You will have two loops on your hook. Drop your original color and pull up the new color you would like to change to, yarn over, and pull through all loops on your hook. When working your next stitch, complete a slip stitch instead of a SC for a smooth transition into your new color.

Example above: Blue zebra was made with a regular color change, while the pink zebra used the invisible color change technique.

Notes

  • Slowly stuff as you go; you want it to be firm but not stretched.
  • You will be working in the round, and it helps to use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.
  • The legs, body, and head will be made as one piece.
  • Feel free to carry your yarn through color changes to avoid multiple tie-offs.
